A Little Something Extra to Care For Your Senior Pets
Many products are now available to assist in caring for your senior dog, and even your pet bunny. As they grow older, problems start to appear and
their dependency is upon their pet parents to make life easier and bearable. The different breeds of dogs have a different life span and as pet parents, the need to provide solutions in making their lives more adaptable, is well worth the effort. If you allow your dog to hang their head out of the vehicle window (which is not recommended), there are window bumpers that have a cushion for your dog to rest their head on for safety and slides on the top of the window. During travel or taking your dog walking, a portable spill proof water bottle container is handy keeping your dog hydrated. You carry a water bottle I bet, just for this same purpose. Have you seen the handy dispenser that holds biodegradable poop bags that attach to your dogs leash? What a neat idea.
Additional products offered in caring for our senior dogs are becoming more in demand in care giving. A sturdy mobility harness and a support harness working together for dogs that have arthritis, or severe hip problems, will be of upmost help to care for senior pets that have difficulty getting up and down. Mobility problems are the biggest challenge for your senior dog and understanding what all of these products have to offer including dog wheelchairs and used dog wheelchairs are affordable for them to live a long and happier life. Summer is just around the corner and the excitement of taking your dog along for a ride has always
been fun for pet parents. Short rides are fun with so many different products available keeping your pet safe, but long rides or even vacations can be somewhat stressful in containing your active doggy, kitty or bunny. Controlling the activity of your dog riding in your vehicle includes many ideas. A pet carrier that can snap in and out of your vehicle similar to a carrier for a baby, is handy. It can be secured with a lap seat belt that will snap in or out in seconds with a quick release. This particular pet carrier will accommodate your pet up to 15 pounds, and can be used as a kennel, if needed. Please consider all of these wonderful products for your senior pet care. Be Happy!
Step Aside Doggie, It Is Time for Kitty Cat
Let us face it, cats are quite different from dogs, but are still great pets to have, even though I have never had one. Only barn cats years ago. Cats are soft and cuddly and mainly stay to themselves, except at din-din time. At least this is what I was told. Like all pets, they like the comfort and warmth of your home, and can be an asset at times, especially if you have a mouse in the house. Cats do need to stay healthy so visits to the veterinarian are necessary. If for some reason the vet prescribes medication for your cat,
you need to go right out and buy a book on how to give the medication, without having to go through animal abuse reported by your neighbor. When your cat is a kitten, train them to go into a container, this is what cat carriers are for, so when the time comes, you will not have to go through a war zone chasing your beloved all over the house, trying to get them into the carrier. Once accepted by your cat, these containers are great for moving your cat around or taking them places to be with you.
However, back to administering the medication, I read a hilarious article about doing just that. The article said to crawl on your hands and knees toward your cat, placing your ankles together or crossing them, to give your cat a snuggling place to back up into for a secure fit. I would think that a towel between your legs would prevent your cat from scratching the tar out of you, but that is just my thought. Restrain their front legs, put your chin on the top of their head, placing your thumb and finger towards the back of
your cat’s mouth where there are no teeth, and popping the pill in and holding their mouth shut. I can almost picture this procedure, but reading about it, I just about died out laughing. Don’t think I would want to go through all that commotion, its bad enough trying to give my own dog a pill. Be Happy!
New Kitty
I think it’s about time that there should be a kitty posting to this blog. I have not intentionally left kitty out, it’s just that I wanted to feel comfortable in writing about this subject. I’ve never owned a cat, so I have much to learn about them. So, on with the article. A human household has made a decision to buy a kitty, so they must first consider the responsibility, then make sure that there is a safe home environment. New surroundings for your new kitty, will most likely will be frightened. Give as much attention that you possibly can in helping the kitty to readjust. Do
you have a home or an apartment that you will be bringing Kitty to for the first time? Are there other cats in the home; is there a dog whose domain will be interred with, bringing a new pet into the home? All of these things are important to understand because if you already have a pet (dog), they may feel their comfort level will be challenged, and sharing a pet parent may not be acceptable at first.
A pet carrier will be handy in bringing your new found friend home to a loving environment that might take some time to accept. It is not a smart idea to bring Kitty home without one. Riding in a vehicle and being around
strange people is not something the kitty is accustomed to; therefore, a pet carrier would prevent the kitty from running around in the vehicle, possibly scratching their new owner, and even worse, cause an accident. Cat carriers are meant to be used in maintaining their safety and yours, and are great in training your kitty in accepting a situation that will be a new experience with having a pet parent, and knowing that they are loved. Be Happy!
