Seems Flea and Tick Control Never Stops

Summer is ending and Fall will begin with cooler weather that will become more comfortable for pet parents and their pet child depending on their locality, but there are still areas that remain warm and humid throughout most of the year.  This leads to the same problem your dog may have had during the hot summer months, fleas and ticks, so how does a dog attract fleas and ticks.  Usually out on their daily walks, running and playing in designated dog parks with other dogs, or wildlife of some kind such as raccoons and other species that may carry the female flea laying eggs, end up in the environment.  Once the eggs become adults, fleas get on the pet child and there you have it, fleas, and more fleas.  To avoid allergies the pet parent should apply a flea repellent that eliminates excessive scratching causing skin problems that are sometime hard to control.

Ticks are another problem but can be controlled as well with a preventic tick collar, but care should be taken in letting your dog in their daily walks go into wooded areas and grass that is high enough that when they come in contract and rub against high grass and weeds, ticks end up on their body. This is the perfect environment where ticks love to hang out and wait for something or someone to attack, then it is too late.   Ticks are ugly and when they make their way into the dog’s skin, or even the pet parent’s skin, embed their head that is extremely hard to remove.  Do not take a chance thinking your pet child will not be bothered with fleas and ticks, because this is not a positive way of taking care avoiding possible illnesses caused by these annoying insects.  Be Happy!

Control Ticks With A Preventic Tick Collar

It is still very hot throughout all of these United States and pets suffer from high heat temperatures, especially if they are long-haired dogs, and this hot weather brings on those annoying ticks and fleas.  When pet parents do not protect their dogs from ticks and fleas, breeding continues under their long hair and becomes difficult for the dog to tolerate, usually causing excessive scratching.  There are many large cities and suburbs that have off leash dog parks for pet parents to take them to exercise, run, and play with the other dogs, and if there has been no protection, dogs come back loaded with fleas and ticks.  Ticks are especially troublesome because if they are not revealed in their early stage on the dog’s body, they start to suck blood from the dog’s body leaving their head embedded.

As a pet parent for your pet, you are obligated to protect them from the flea and tick infestation early in the year by providing products that alleviate this problem and if given the proper flea and tick medication, will not get out of hand.  The preventic tick collar is very effective in as much as it kills and helps to rid ticks from the dog’s body, and when worn on the dog’s neck, the preventic tick collar will last for three months.  This tick collar is not for cats and will not kill the flea population, but there are some good products out there that will do the job. The Frontline, K-9 Advantix, Advantage are all great products, and the Capstar is a pill that can be used on dogs and cats, so keep in touch with your dogs constant scratching and being miserable during the heat of the summer and protect them.  Be Happy!

Fleas, Ticks and Your Dog

Today is the first day of summer and we all know what that means, warm to hot temperatures, and fleas and ticks.  Subjecting your dog to other dogs in day care, parks, and sleep over’s in a dog kennel where they may stay a few days to a few weeks and be in contact with other dogs, should be of concern. Keep your dog as clean as possible during these hot months avoiding infestation and check out some of the good products that control fleas and ticks with a minimal of effort.  Make sure your pets environment is treated before the infestation period begins, and check out the flea and tick control products that are available.

Pay special attention to possible fleas in your home and in the vehicle in which your dog goes for rides, and if you find one, you can be sure there are more to contend with.  There are some good flea and tick control choices using Frontline, Advantage, and K9Advantix, and these products are a topical liquid repellent that is applied to the back of the dog’s neck with once a month applications. These products are affordable in controlling parasites and keeping your pet comfortable.  After all they depend on their pet parents to take care of them and keep them safe and happy, and in return give their pet parents lots of love and kisses, and try to always be obedient.  Be Happy!

Summer Months and Insects

Summer time is just around the corner and wanting to be outside in your yard, maybe a park or walking through the woods with your dog is what summer is all about.  The surroundings are so serene and just having your dog with you is a special togetherness that I would call perfect.  Butterflies are flying around, birds are singing, and the coolness of the woods is so relaxing during the hot months. But what about the insects?  They can really be a problem not only to you, but to your dog as well.  Most of the concern in coming into contact with insects actually depends on where you live.  I lived in an area where insects were always a problem and was a necessity in keeping a close watch over our pets for fleas and ticks. Of course, fleas and ticks were bothersome to us pet parents too.  The worst ones were the tiny little seed ticks (as they are called) and would absolutely drive you crazy.  They are hard to see, and whether our dogs were ever bothered with them, I do not know.  However, the big ones were something else.  The infestation of fleas was more common around areas where there was an abundance of dogs.

So how do you control this problem in deterring these horrible insects?  I guess they are for a purpose, but I sure have not come up with any solution.  There are some types of medication that you can bathe your dog in, but flea and tick control is the better choice.  So, consider the flea and tick control that comes in tablet form or drops that are applied between the shoulder blades of your pet.  This type of treatment is very effective in controlling fleas and ticks.  Most flea and tick products pretty much contain the same ingredient, but some may be stronger than others and some are not appropriate to give young puppies up to a certain age.  Flea and tick products are usually waterproof and should be replaced at different intervals.  Read all the labels in making your decision on which product would be advantageous for you and your pet.  Some flea and tick medication does not control infestation, but only kills what insects are already present.  This particular type is good to use in boarding, grooming and surgery.  Finally yet importantly, do not forget the tick collar. The collar does not kill or control flea populations, only prevents them from returning once they are eliminated.  Be Happy!
