Pet Insurance for ‘a’ Pet or ‘this’ Pet Is a Decision

Sunday, February 28, 2010

When you apply for a job at a large company and are hired with benefits offered in a package, inquire if they offer pet insurance.  This is gaining in popularity and the percentage of companies doing so is growing. Rather you are willing to take care of ‘a’ pet, or ‘this’ pet, is a big decision you must live with.  If you just want ‘a’ pet for whatever reason, and are not willing to give the care and attention your pet deserves, do not do it.  If ’a’ pet gets sick and down and out, you will most probably have this pet euthanized, because you are not willing to spend money to take care of them.  Purchasing ‘a’ pet should not be considered if it is to satisfy his or her own wants and desires, but giving a loving home and taking care of ‘this’ pet will give you enjoyment and happiness.   Yes, there are times when there are no other alternatives other than to put your pet down, and you will know when that time comes.

A good candidate for purchasing pet insurance for ‘this’ pet is the one that is willing to do what it takes to keep them healthy and safe.  A dollar amount is not set when ’this’ pet is part of your family and I am sure you would not make a decision of this kind when ’this’ pet is in need.  Taking care of them is a lifetime experience, worrying when they get sick or have an injury or a serious illness.  This is natural for the person who has love and compassion for any living thing, whether it is human or animal.  It is understood that with the economy the way it is now, every dollar counts.  I have heard people say “I can’t even afford my own insurance, much less a dog’s,” and this is understandable.  If you already own a dog, do the best you can and talk to your veterinarian if you are experiencing financial problems.  If you do not have a dog, do not get one, at least not now if things are tight.  When this economy started going downhill, there was not much we could do about it.  So do the best you can under the circumstance. Be Happy!

Doggie Jobs Are Hard To Find These Days

A local business was looking for office help.  They put a sign in the window, stating the following: “HELP WANTED.”  The criteria was, “Must be able to type, must be good help-wanted-signwith a computer and must be bilingual.  We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.”

A short time afterwards, a dog trotted up to the window, saw the sign and went inside.  He looked at the receptionist and wagged his tail, then walked over to the sign, looked at it and whined.

Getting the idea, the receptionist went and got the office manager.  The office manager looked at the dog and was surprised, to say the least.  However, the dog henryk-t-kaiser-pekingese-dog-sitting-on-a-chair-at-the-tablelooked determined, so he led him into the office.  Inside, the dog jumped up on the chair and stared at the manager.

The manager said, “I can’t hire you.  The sign says you have to be able to type.”  The dog jumped down, went to the typewriter and proceeded to type out a perfect letter.  He took out the page and trotted over to the manager and gave it to him, then jumped back on the chair.

The manager was stunned, but then told the dog “the sign says you have to be good with a computer.”  The dog jumped down again and went to the computer.  The dog proceeded to enter and execute a perfect program that worked flawlessly the first time.

By this time, the manager was totally dumb-founded!  He looked at the dog and said, “I  realize, that you are a very intelligent dog and have some interesting abilities.  However, I still cannot give you the job.”

The dog jumped down, went over to the copy of the sign that had additional information, and put his paw on the sentences that told about being an Equal Opportunity Employer.  The manager said, “Yes, but the sign also says that you have to be bilingual.”

The dog looked at the manager calmly and said, “Meow!”  “You do offer Pet Insurance, do you not?”  Be Happy!

Does Your Dogs Eyes Tear?

Some dogs have a problem with their eyes tearing and can be a problem in keeping them clean.  It seems as though light colored dogs have this angels_glow_animated1problem more than others do, and the discoloration sometimes has an offensive odor.  Take your dog to their veterinarian for a checkup just to make sure there are no infections, or may have extra eyelashes that could cause the problem. These conditions are usually controllable, but other problems may be harder to overcome.  Many dogs have allergies, fleas and mites and this could be the problem.  There drinking water may contain a high mineral content, and their diet may create tearing.  It could also be their genetic predisposition, which would be difficult in curing.  Some diets can become a problem if you feed canned dog food all the time.  They need more nutrition in their diets that do not contain high levels of salt, preservatives, chemicals, and sugar.  None of these provides a healthy diet for your pet.  High quality dog food should be alternated between the canned dog food in providing more nutrients and may be a bit more expensive.  However, in the long run, feeding a well balanced diet may deter medical problems causing expensive medical bills.  Pet health information is advisable  before a serious condition occurs.

If you are raising your dog in rural areas where water is provide by using well water, this could cause problems because of the various minerals that 390are involved.  Bottled water or distilled water has become popular in solving tear staining.  Have you ever heard of adding a small amount of vinegar to your dog’s water dish?   Until they are accustomed to the taste, a little more can be added, but you know what, I think I would rather buy bottled water then to take a chance on using vinegar even though it has been suggested that the PH is changed by using this method.  You be the judge.  Be Happy!

Old Dogs Never Give Up, They Just Want To Please

I know, I have one!  What a character, he has ailments that cause him pain, but he still wants to play.  Sure wish I would have known about pet insurance when he was a puppy.  Now it is too late.  He is 13, going on 14 years 111732-main_fullold, and takes medication for his thyroid, arthritis, and hip dysplasia.  Just recently had ex-rays taken of his stomach and chest areas, and everything was okay.  His vet is amazed at his stamina and tells me all the time what a great dog he is.  He had problems coming down the stairs once he was upstairs, but the vet prescribed another medication to help his hip dysplasia, and it seems to be working for him.  Pet parents need to watch their dog’s diet, and keep their weight down when they age.  Working or hunting dogs require more to eat, but if your dog is a housedog like mind is, there requirements in their diets become less.  Exercise is very important for good health, and if you can walk your dog often, this will help keep them healthy.  Joint pain may deter your dog’s enthusiasm for this kind of exercise, so pay attention to their movements in walking.  It is possible that limitations will need to be enforced.

Maintain their daily activities, take them for health checkups, and if they have fleas, medication applied between their shoulders on a monthly basis pet-a-dogis very affective. Your vet should also check their blood for heartworms.  Medication for this issue was once prescribed for only a few months, but now it is recommended to administer heart worms pills all year long.  Just lots of loving, hugging, and caring for your dog will help them to live a longer life, and give their pet parents companionship for as long as both shall live.  Be Happy!

Why Are Cats So Special?

Cats are snugly, great companions, lovable, and comforting. Cat owners are like dog owners, if they have the responsibility of caring for them, they will purring-cat-1most likely live a life of caring for humans as well. Cats are known to be health angels and can lessen patients who have mental problems. Elderly people take pride in caring for their pets, and do not feel they are worthless or useless.  They know they are needed in loving and caring for them and to be needed by anyone, whether it is a human or an animal relieves depression, solitude, and stress. Everyone needs to feel responsible in one way or another. It is also known that individuals who own cats can live longer and have peace within their lives.

In being a cat owner maintaining their health is having responsibilities in keeping them out of danger that could be fatal. Bathrooms can be a major 4fc46674498a81047c2ff581dbe4danger to your kitty if they love to drink out of the toilet bowl. The inserts used to disinfect the water most likely will be fatal.  They like to jump onto things; therefore,  the kitchen stove is unsafe, as well as the refrigerator. Kitchens are full of toxins to pets.  A variety of chemicals are usually kept in the kitchen and stored under the sink, but curious cats may find this danger interesting.  Out in the garage where antifreeze that tastes sweet to your cat,  may have leaked out from under your car.  All of these things must be protected from your cat.  If by chance kitty gets sick, pet medical insurance is there for you, beforehand.  There is pet insurance available for cats as well as dogs.   Be Happy!

Is Your Dog or Cat Too Old for Pet Health Insurance?

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Is your dog or cat too old for pet health insurance, my is, but I don’t have a cat.  He’s going on 14 years old and has arthritis and hip dysplasia. There are dog-cat-2some pet insurance companies that won’t cover older dogs, or cats.  This is something that the pet parent needs to go over in understanding just what coverage and conditions are offered.  There are old and new pet health insurance companies that need careful scrutiny in deciding which policy and which company to go with.  Be careful for the new companies that have not been around very long.  In purchasing insurance for your pet is the right choice, just as purchasing your own insurance.  Why put off covering your pet for insurance because it is too expensive?  You wouldn’t put off your own, would you?  Compare the pros and cons before making a decision, because this is important for unforeseen incidents that may occur as your pet grows into a senior dog, or cat.

Some of the illnesses and diseases that come with older pets can be very expensive, but some things like routine visits, heart worm tests, and dental care may be less expensive than treating a serious illness or disease that could be fatal.  Surgeries can be expensive depending on what kind of dogcat-more1surgery is required, and to overcome the stress that goes along with any serious conditions, pet insurance is something that every pet parent should most definitely consider.  It may not be needed now, but sometime in the future, it may be, so be prepared for what can happen when your pets become seniors.  It makes sense in planning for the future of your pet’s health, just as it makes sense in planning for your own.  Be Happy!

Dog Dragged to Death

Sunday, January 3, 2010

When the local news reports a horrible death of a pet who is as innocent as an angel, the feeling you have inside your heart erupts with sorrow in realizing that there are humans in this sometime cruel world, that do not deserve to be called a human being.  The punishment for crimes toward innocent animals who cannot defend themselves, has still not yet been established as a severe crime of cruelty to animals.  The lives of evil ones who stand before a judge when sentenced to prison,  should have their sentence doubled, to have lots of time to think about what they have done.  Perhaps that type of punishment would take away the evil in their lives, and when released, will understand what they should have known all along.  Evil is within the devil.  I suppose this sounds inhumane, but that’s my personal opinion.  This is leading up to the death of a dog that was dragged behind a pickup truck for several miles.

snow_angel_26682239_stdWhat could an innocent dog have possibly done to deserve this cruelty?  The dog had been put into the truck, taken up into the mountains and dragged to death.  Video surveillance at the entrance of a mountain park, showed the pickup going into the park with the dog in the bed of the truck, and coming back out without the dog.  Several hours later, park rangers discovered the body of the dog with a rope 259010-mediumaround his neck.  It was too late for any pet health care for saving this poor dog; he was already in doggy heaven. There were tracks of the dog in the snow that showed how the crime was committed.  The next day, a man was arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals, along with other charges not related to the killing.  Be Happy!

Santa’s Coming – Groom Your Dogs

Saturday, December 19, 2009

There are many responsibilities in owning a dog if you are a pet lover. Every one of those responsibilities is a real pleasure, and I might add, such a joy in maintaining your dog’s health anpet_care_dog_groomingd well being for continued pleasure in being a pet parent. Along in feeding them the proper balanced diet, keeping up with their medical exams, vaccinations, and obtaining pet insurance for them, grooming is a must for a healthy and clean dog, especially if they are house dogs. Grooming also enforces the beauty of their coat, and skin, along with keeping their nails trimmed.  They depend on their pet parent to keep up with their hygiene just like you keep up with your own. Depending on where the pet family lives, will depend on the necessity of grooming. If you live in an apartment, grooming probably wouldn’t have to be on a regular basis. If your dog is subjected to dirt, mud, or any other source which would require bathing, then do so.

Just thinking about how much fun it would be in bathing a small dog, makes me smile, but if the dog is large, then perhaps your dog should go to a pet salon that offers grooming. They are all professionals and can handle the dog-grooming-resized-6001dog properly with all of the necessary equipment that is needed to perform the grooming properly. One thing to remember is to keep up with brushing their coat which prevents the massive amount of shedding that some dogs have.  Santa is on his way and you want your dog to look their very best for Christmas.  So check out the grooming for this time, then continue with grooming on your own if possible.  Slick shinning dogs are the apple of every one’s eye when all spruced up.   Be Happy!
