There are so many different laws out there to abide by and most are for our benefit, but the one that stands out in my mind, is the seat belt law. This particular law would save human lives, the infant seats would save babies and children, but when these laws were passed, there were no considerations regarding the safety of the canine population. Have you ever wondered why? The conclusion that I have come to, is that when these laws all came into place, dogs were considered differently compared to now. Years ago, pet parents who owned a dog thought of them just as a pet for their family, but in this day and time, pets have captured the love and companionship of their pet parent and have actually become part of the family.

Taking care of a pet child is a big responsibly almost the way parents take care of their children. Safety has always been a priority and when parents take their children in the family vehicle, safety is accomplished by attaching the seat beats, and using the infant seats avoiding serious injury. A dog safety harness is a garment type harness used under the dog’s chest, across their back, and under their tummy and fasten in such a way that if a sudden stop occurs, the dog will be able to stay in place and not be thrown to the floor, or possibly worse. The dog safety harness attaches to the vehicle safety belt and together will absorb sudden shock if the pet parent has to slam on the brakes, no dog should be without one. Be Happy!

Getting out of the house and going for a ride is such fun for your dog. Just being together and seeing all the sights along the streets is an acceptable gesture that pet parents can offer their pets. Depending on what type of vehicle the dog will be riding in is of importance to care for their safety. Consider a dog safety harness if your faithful companion is riding along with you.

I noticed a man the other day with his dog riding in his convertible (with the top down) and his dog was not confined. The dog was running back and forth in the back seat all excited, and would most probably jump out of the car at the first chance they had. What must the pet parent have been thinking? In my opinion, this was absolutely uncalled for, paying no attention toward the safety of his dog. There are so many wonderful dog safety harnesses to choose from, it was almost all I could do not to holler at the man, and ask him if he was unconscious as to the safety of his dog, but of course I did not put myself in that predicament. Be Happy!

It is time for you to take your dog for a walk, which should you use for walking your dog, a dog collar or a harness? I have seen pet parents trying, and yes, I said trying to walk their dog, but the problem is that it is the over way around. The dog is walking their pet parent with much force by pulling on their collar. You have probably seen dogs choking when they pull too hard, or if the pet parent wants to keep them under control, they pull on the dog’s collar. Training dogs to become use to a collar around their neck should be at a very early age. Puppies do not like their collars at first, but it does not take long for their acceptance, and then on to other things. Dog harnesses that are super great, “senior pet care products” are becoming the easiest and safest way to take your dog on their daily walks. Pulling will become minimal and you will notice that your dog likes their new harness. Some pet parents use both, which is quite all right, but using the dog harness independently is okay as well. The collar always has their dog tags attached, and that is the safest in case your dog gets lost. Choosing a dog harness depends on the breed and size of your dog. There are small harnesses for that little one you have as well. Some are quite fancy and others more durable according to your taste. Placing the dog harness around the chest and back area prevents your dog from lunging forward and even breaking loose from your grip. The dog harness relieves pressure in controlling your dog and they will succumb to the direction taken.

Do not purchase the cheapest, because as we all know, nothing cheap lasts very long. Measure around the waist, chest area, and around the shoulders at the base of the neck to decide on the correct size. Measure their back from the top of the shoulders to past their rib cage; this will help in deciding the correct size. Make sure that the connection areas where the harness crosses has double stitching, this will enforce the durability of the harness. Once your dog learns how to walk with their new harness, both you and your dog will always be eager to go for walks together, because there will not be any more hassle between the two of you. On another note, the pet safety vehicle harness is an item to consider in maintaining your dog’s safety while riding in your vehicle. There are many different types of harnesses that are used, some on guide dogs, and service dogs for different situations. Be Happy!

The most obvious accessory for a dog is a collar and a leash. There are so many adorable collars for different breeds of dogs; you could actually have several for different occasions. The fancy collars look cute on small dogs, but large dogs have that look of authority (or so they think) and a rhinestone collar would not do justice to them. It is quite popular for pet parents to use a dog harness for walking their dogs. Having one of these does not hurt their neck if they should happen to pull a time or two, and is such a hassle trying to train a new pet to heel when they are being naughty. They must learn long before you start taking them for long walks exactly what is expected of them. This should be practiced in the home before tackling walks where there may be other dogs walking as well. Dog collars are popular for training in doing different tasks or drills and must always have their pet tags on the collars as well as their dog safety harness (Traveling Solution). Dog collars for small dogs are as delicate as they are and pulling could damage their neck. Sometime halters are used, but actually, dogs hate them because they are usually too tight around their nose and throat and can cause breathing problems.

Small dogs do well with a dog harness and will become quite comfortable wearing them, but it is not wise to leave them on all of the time. Large dogs wear harness as well, but you see more of the smaller or medium sized dogs wearing them. Rubbing against their bodies can cause skin irritations, so remove their harness and let them wear their fancy collars in and around the home. There are really some very cool and fashionable dog harnesses to choose from and are made with soft materials such as suede, soft mesh or nylon so they do not cause chafing or having their fur all matted up. The dog harness is fitted around their chest so when trying to pull away, their weight is distributed evenly throughout their shoulders and easier to manage. To have accessories that will put a very large emphasis on their health will keep your dog comfortable and safe for a very long time. Some harnesses adjust to the growth of your dog, but not totally, if your dog will grow up to be very large. So enjoy an outing together with your dog wearing their new dog harness. Be Happy!

Safety, Safety! Keep reminding yourself that raising your dog without any safety precautions is not something you want to face when serious consequences occur. Pet parents know that their dog will live longer and have a happier life with a few considerations toward their health, safety, and well-being. All dogs love to go riding in a vehicle sharing moments of excitement, but keep in mind that your dog needs confinement while riding along with you. If not confined you can expect a friendly kiss, or lick on your ear, running back and forth from window to window, and just become overly excited because they are seeing different scenery and possibly dogs walking along with their pet parents. This is not a good idea allowing your dog to do these things, when they should be behaving themselves. If your dog is small, seat belts will contain them in the pet car seat, and medium and large dogs may wear a harness that also attaches to the seat belt. If you want to take your dog with you in a SUV or perhaps you have a station wagon, precautions keeping them confined must be your number one priority.

A dog car barrier is the answer in controlling your dog’s safety, and is affordable compared to an accident that could turn out to be expensive. A dog car barrier separates the driver and the dog to avoid distractions, which could lead to serious accidents, and prevents your dog from climbing over into the front seat. I cannot think of anything more dangerous than that. It may take a few tries getting your dog use to the car barrier, but once they know where there place is, you have got it made. The dog car barrier is great for taking your dog on vacations, and you will feel relieved knowing that you did not have to leave your dog behind and board them in a dog kennel. Seat belts and dog harnesses work well in the back seat keeping them from being thrown onto the floor if sudden stops are made. If your dog insists on going with you in your pickup put them in the cab of the truck. Never let your dog ride in the bed of your truck if it is not covered. This is dangerous and the pet parents will never forgive themselves if something happened that could have been avoided. Be Happy!

Dogs love to go for walks in the park or anywhere their pet parent is willing to take them, but if your dog is large and starts to walk you, rather than you walk them, there is a problem. They can pull very hard and will not allow the ease of taking a stroll together. There are different types and sizes of pet safety harnesses that are suitable for just about any activity. A pet safety harness should be used to fasten your dog to the seat belt in your vehicle (some vehicles do not accommodate this feature), and will protect them from getting hurt if the brakes are suddenly applied to avoid having an accident. If you are a runner and take your dog with you, a pet safety harness is ideal. It will work as well for your dog, while riding a bicycle. The pet safety harness is becoming very popular and takes away the stress of trying to calm your dog down while walking. They want to rule, forgetting you are in control, not them. It may take a few times for your dog to become use to their harness, but once they do, you both will be happy.

In addition to this type of pet safety harness, a special one is available to support a senior dog that has had surgery of some kind, or is losing their mobility in walking due to arthritis or hip dysplasia. As dogs become a senior, they will start having pain in their legs, joints, and hips. If you have had your dog for a long time, you will begin to notice the difference of them trying to get up and down, or start to have a slight limp. This is the time to take them to your veterinarian and find out what the problem is before it gets too far-gone and nothing can be done to help them. Trying to walk up and down stairs will become a very big problem, as is with getting in and out of your vehicle, I know from experience. Special harnesses are available just for that purpose to help them maneuver easier with less pain. The special harness is designed not to bunch up like a towel and will brace your dog. Place the harness under their groin (can also be placed under the front legs depending on the problem) and lifting up will support their weight to move a little more freely. Try not to place the harness under your dog’s mid-section, their abdominal organs are sensitive. Your dog needs to use their own legs to walk with your support. Be Happy!

Pets love Valentine’s Day too, and by now, you have already purchased something to bring out the cuteness of your pet to participate in activities available on this day. Pet parents do many different things with them to celebrate and have fun to designate a celebration, or a holiday with our dogs. Some pet parents like to dress up their little darlings in a costume representing the occasion on hand. There are neat accessories for your dog at this star-studded time of the year. Fancy collars with pint and red hearts and rhinestone collars are appropriate for Valentine’s Day, and you could dress up the dog safety harness with little hearts and tags too. I am sure most pet parents go overboard in celebrating with their dogs, but why not. Love, companionship, and fun are what it is all about.

Several things to remember on Valentine’s Day is to keep chocolate candies out of their reach. Dogs can smell chocolate a mile away, at least it seems that way when we eat chocolate candy at our house. Chocolate contains theobromine that is extremely toxic and can be fatal. Flowers are beautiful and we all love them, but some are toxic as well. Keep a list available of toxic flowers and plants, and this will inform you to which ones to remove. Bulbs of Tulips, Amaryllis, Chrysanthemums, Azaleas, and English Ivy are very dangerous to your dog. Be particularly careful if alcohol is available, and make sure there is not a way for them to ingest any alcoholic beverages. Any amount, especially an over excessive amount to your dog can put them into a coma. Be sure and put out any candles that you have burned for celebrating. This is a hazard as well, especially if your dog is over active and loves to run and play. It is sad to think about what could happen in celebrations if we as pet parents, were not aware of precautions that should be followed. Be Happy!

If a pet parent has no one to care for their pet while they are away, make sure you research local companies that offer Pet Sitters. You would want to make sure that the person chosen to care for your dog, will have had a Criminal Records Bureau checked, and is insured before making any decision. References should be available by the pet sitter for you to contact other clients that have used this service. Professionals may charge more, but in the end, you will have peace of mind in knowing you did the right thing. Do not wait until the last minute in making a choice because you will want to invite your preference to your home, and introduce your pet to their possible selected pet sitter. Meeting people in person and having conversations with them toward what their responsibilities would be in caring for your pet, tells a lot about a person’s personality.

Is your pet friendly toward them and seems happy with their presence, or are they a little scared to be touched, and show signs of rejection. This is very important in knowing how your dog’s acceptance is toward someone who will be taking your place temporarily. If you feel comfortable in your decision, then show them around your home and where supplies are, then explain what is expected of them in your absence. The main thing that must be understood, is not to walk your dog without their pet safety harness. Your dog may may not feel comfortable and want to get away. After you have decided on a pet sitter, have them practice in walking your pet. If you are having problems in finding the right person to do the job, talk to your veterinarian and perhaps they may have a suggestion. There may be several interviews before deciding whom you choose, but be patient and careful. You will not be sorry. Be Happy!

If you are a dog lover and want to pet every dog that comes in your path, this is a happy feeling within that person. Something about it is soothing, makes you smile, lifts up your heart to a happy and solace feeling. If you have a dog of your own, you know that their companionship is indescribable and spending time with them offers physical and mental health benefits. There is a special bond between humans and pet’s that go back a very long way. All breeds of dogs offer different human interaction and must be taken into consideration which one to choose, especially if you have children. Most small children have a way with dogs, but some dogs are not comfortable around them. So research the different types of breeds that would complete your family life. If your dog is not compatible with your children, then never consider your dog in becoming a therapy dog.

Therapy dogs have been around for quite some time, and trained to visit nursing homes, hospitals, and homes for retired elders. Therapy dogs arrive with a collar and necessary tags, leash, and some may have a dog safety harness for ease in handling. Not all dogs are fit for this purpose, so personalities are of upmost importance in considering your dog in becoming a therapy dog. Therapy dogs are different from service dogs and assistance dogs, and their training is different. They must be sociable, and friendly, lovable, and accept being petted by persons other than their pet parents. Patience and a well- trained dog is essential between them and their handler, and must display warmth, affection, and compassion. A therapy dog visiting seniors can take away their loneliness, decrease blood pressure, increase social interaction, decrease heart rate, change moods and mental stimulation, and bring smiles and happiness to some of the patients that were otherwise down and out. Be Happy!
