Stop Pet Allergy in Flight

Monday, March 1, 2010
posted by c eothe 5:55 PM

Allergies toward pets are common among individuals whether they have pets or not.  Pet parents that do have allergies, control this problem through medications, and with their continuous love, will care for their pets.  To travel in a vehicle within close proximity of one another is accepted by the pet parent, because they know what to do to control their health problems.  However, traveling in an airplane among passengers who may be allergic to pets is another problem.  Most commercial airlines avoid serving peanuts as a precaution to people who suffer from reactions that can become severe by inhaling peanut dust in re-circulated air in the airline cabin.  Some airlines approve a carry on pet carrier that will slide under the pet parents’ passenger seat if the pet is small, but what if the pet is larger.  The answer to that is the cargo and baggage department, which could be detrimental to their health.  Climate control is not that important in those areas, therefore the temperature can fluctuate, but will still remain pressurized.  Stress can overcome a pet during their flight and can become scared and cause sickness.  It is estimated that one in ten people are allergic to animals and will cause complications during their flight.

Avoiding all of these problems and concerns, fly your pet on a pet only airline in the main cabin, not in cargo.  To insure a safe and comfortable flight a trained pet attendant is constantly monitoring your pet in a well lighted and climate control atmosphere.  There will be no need to purchase a pet carrier because the pet airlines will provide a carrier free of charge.  At last pets will fly safe and comfortably on their way to join their pet parents, and the pet only airline promises to transport your pet with lots of love, care, safety, and comfort in the main cabin. Pet Airways is the first airline exclusively dedicated to pets and takes the job of providing a comfortable experience for pets very seriously.  They will do everything in their power to make sure your pets get the best care during their journey because they are committed to taking care of their pet “pawsengers” as if they were their own.  Be Happy!

Make Pet Reservations Early For Easter Flights

Doggies pet family is planning a trip to visit relatives for the Easter weekend and mapping out the route which will be approximately 800 miles.  The Easter Holiday is 4 days of spending time together and sharing the traditional Easter dinner.  Preparations start ahead of time for choosing yellowlab11-300x300what clothes, etc. to bring along, and just how much baggage will the family car/SUV accommodate.  Motel reservations will be required in advance for possibly two nights, depending on road and weather conditions.  However, the big question is what to do with your family dog?  They love to ride and be with their pet parents, but there is just not enough room to take your pet with you.  So that means making reservations early enough to board your dog in the kennel, because Holidays are usually busy and if you wait until the last minute, you will not be able to reserve a place for them.  Their vaccinations should be updated and if there are medications taken by your dog, make sure there is enough to last until returning back home.  Then there is the cost of boarding.  Depending on the length of time they will be in the kennel, will determine the cost.  So, what other alternative is there to consider?

There is a pet airline that will fly your dog to your destination, and you would not have to worry how well your pet is being taken care of in the kennel.  Most dog kennels are very dependable, but flying your dog would be having all the family together for Easter.  The pet only airline is a safe and comfortable way to fly your dog and know that there are only two humans aboard, the pilot and the pet attendant.  Ask your veterinarian for your paplanes1dog’s records to assure the airline company that they are healthy and do not have any immediate medical problems.  Pet airways have a Pet Lounge at the airport for check-in no later than 2 hours before the flight.  They monitor the last time your pet had a potty break, and will get regular potty breaks along the way.  Your pet is also monitored every 15 minutes during the flight.  Think about it, this could not get any better than flying your pet to be together.  Be Happy!

Hilda the Iraqi Mutt

An Iraqi mutt given the name Hilda was cared for by a Colorado Army National Guard soldier, roaming through an American Camp 70 miles of mutt1Baghdad.  A dog don’t have to be a pure bred to charm an individual fighting for our country, just a mutt who took a liking to one soldier, who in turn loved her back and treated her with respect.  The soldier is not due back in the US until sometime after the beginning of spring, and wanted to see if there was a way to send Hilda back to his Mother in the US.  There is an organization called Operation Baghdad Pups, operated by SPCA International that helped to transport the dog to the soldier’s Mother who resides in Colorado. Transporting the dog was probably not a pet airline, but that is okay, I am sure she was still safe. Just image how scared this poor dog was, arriving in an area far from the conditions the dog had been accustomed to.  Unfortunately after the dog arrived to her new home, she was able to get out of her collar and leash, and ran off.  The poor Mother was heartbroken because of the severity of what could become of the runaway pet.  The only peace offering  if someone found Hilda was to perhaps entice her with cheese, mocha, Pop-Tarts or muffins.

After almost 5 days, searching for her son’s pet, the mother found Hilda safe and most probably ready to go back to her new home.  She had wandered off several miles away, and a chance of being hit by an automobile was a stupidearcropserious concern.  Hilda had wandered off close to a four lane state highway that could have ended in tragedy.  All of the Denver area population that heard about the runaway dog on the local TV and newspaper, was elated in hearing of her recovery.  The picture of the dog in the paper today was adorable, but sad looking, maybe, just maybe, she will accept her new surrounding, and turn out to be a good dog to be proud of.  Be Happy!

Why Not Fly Your Dog?

Saturday, January 16, 2010

A family vacation is planned, and the pet parents are trying to decide what to do with their dog during the time they will be gone.  Driving is not an Airlines Pet Airwaysoption, so does your dog have to stay in a kennel during that time?  If so, they will need shots for kennel cough, food, any medication needed, and the cost per day for boarding.  Have you ever flown your dog?  Why not consider doing this, so your dog can accompany you on a fun trip?  Most airlines will allow small pets in carriers that will go under the seat in front of you, but I’m sure there must be a charge of some kind.  Check with different airlines to find out what rules need to be applied.  Make sure your dog is not sick or stressed being in a carrier.  Hopefully your dog has been trained in staying in their carrier for various lengths of time.  Sometime sedation may be recommended, but usually not for very young pets.  You may also need some documentation on your dog’s health, so go over these things with your veterinarian.   Large dogs will need to fly in the cargo compartment, which is not recommended because of health reasons.  Maybe it is too hot, or too cold.

To avoid all of these concerns, why not fly your dog on a pet only airline?  No hassle in trying to make sure your pet traveling under your seat, is pet-airways_48090277comfortable.  With flying your dog with Petairways, you can be sure your pet is safe and well-taken care of.  They fly in the main cabin of the airline that flies only pets.  The only humans aboard are the pilot and the pet attendant.  The cabin area is well lighted and climate controlled for the safety of your pet.  The confidence in using this  popular airline is becoming the way to go for comfort in flying.  Be Happy!

Day After Chistmas for Doggy and Kitty

What a wonderful Christmas for Doggy and I.  If we would have had to spend Christmas with Aunt Petunia. we would have had to wait for our Christmas presents from Santa.  Flying with the pet airlines limits the number of presents, otherwise it would have cost more money.  Santa really came through bringing almost everything that we asked for.  Toys were  of all different shapes, and just about everyone of them made a squeak noise.  Some were big and some were small.  These  were all in our 423658-2tChristmas stockings, but doggy and I were a bit confused.  Most of the toys weren’t on our list, so guess our pet parents wanted to surprise us and make us happy.  We shared Christmas dinner with our pet parents, and had a plate all to ourselves. We had white turkey meat, green beans, slices of apples, some cottage cheese, and a little yogurt without any flavoring.

Our biggest surprise was what Santa left under the tree. Doggy and I love our new pet safety harnesses and lighted dog collars (kitties can use these too, you know), it’s too soon to use the pet carriers, but doggies new life vest is unreal.  It has really bright colors so our pet parents could see doggy better if  by accident, fell into the water.  I wonder if life jackets are made for kitty as well.  Probably not, because being a house kitty does have it advantages.   We don’t like water that much anyway, and what could we have possibly run after, and fell into the water, that’s silly.  Mice don’t like water anyway.  Happy 1014742_450campers we are, and want to thank our pet parents and Santa for being so good to us.  Now, our next adventure will be welcoming in the New Year.  Be Happy!

Christmas Air Travel for Pets

Christmas is just around the corner, will you be flying to spend Christmas with relatives and/or friends this year, but will have to leave your pet at home? Pet airline traveling is the greatest choice in having your pet spend the holidays with away from home. Commercial airlines have guidelines, and certain laws pertaining to flying pets. If your pet is too large to be placed under your passenger’s seat, then they must fly in cargo which is not advisable for any size dog or cat. There are things to consider in planning  a trip for your pet. Make sure the airline you choose,  allows pets in the main cabin, if not, your pet will be placed in cargo, and the pet parent must be on the same flight.  There is another alternative.

To have a worry free airline flight for your pet, consider the pet airline that flies airline3only pets with no humans aboard, except the pilot and a pet attendant. What fun this would be. The pet parent on their flight, and their pet on their own. This airline provides “potty breaks,” and monitors and checks the comfort of your pet every 15 minutes during flights.  To check in your pet, a PAWS Lodge is provided with check in no later than 2 hours before, with available boarding which will take care of your pet up to 72 hours before the flight, if this is more convenient. Then there would be no worries at the last minute, hurrying to the airport to check them in. If it happens that you will be late in picking up your pet at the end of the flight, boarding is available as well. This special airlines, tracks and records the progress of your pet’s journey. What a wonderful “Merry Christmas” this will be for all. Be Happy!

Myth: Pet only airlines are available —- Fact: Commercial flights fly all pets with some exceptions, Myth: My pets can be booked as excess baggage —- Fact: That’s not always an easy way to go, Myth: It’s always safe for my pet to be sedated —- Fact: Absolutely not, Myth: Flying my pet in the cold winter months is too cold —- Fact: Only the coldest of days is when you should not fly your pet, Myth: My pet can fly in the main cabin with me —- Fact: The cargo area is usually where most pets fly, Myth: The cargo hold is too cold and my pet will either freeze or suffocate —- Fact: Cargo holds are controlled by temperature and are always pressurized, Myth: Flying is too hot in the summer for my pet —- Fact: Flying is very safe under these conditions.pet_airways_0409

Did you know that if the summer temperature on the runway exceeds 84 degrees, most airlines do not accept any pet as air cargo, or checked baggage? When cold weather months come around, a certificate is required and must have your veterinarians signature stating that your pet can acclimate to cold temperatures on cargo or baggage airline flight.  So the bottom line is, fly your pet with pet friendly airlines, and be glad that you did.  Be Happy!

Pet Passengers – Part 1

dogtraveler1Do you know that pugs, Shih-Tzu’s and bulldogs,  being snub nose breeds, will not be accepted by all airlines in flights on commercial planes? They would have to go into the cargo hold, and breathing problems at high attitudes could cause serious problems. There is an airline that caters only to your pet and is climate-controlled, lighted and attended by an airline attendant on all of there flights.

pa-beechcraft-planesMost all airlines have limitations as too how many pets can fly in their cabin. Perhaps you have two dogs, two cats, or one of each and you cannot accompany them at that time, they would have to travel in air cargo, or as checked baggage. The size of your pet is another consideration having your pet travel with you. Only certain sized pets are allowed in order to be comfortable under your seat. There is a pet airline that welcomes your pets with open arms and gives them individual attention while they are flying in the main cabin with no human passengers aboard except the pilot and attendant. What a deal!  (See Part 2 for more info) Be Happy!
