Could Your Dog or Cat Be Infected with the Swine Flu?
Type A, B and C with a form of influenza virus can infect humans, animals, mammals and birds, but Type A is serious. The H1N1 addressed as “Swine Flu” is a strain of Type A. In reading an article, it suggests that what’s 
causing human deaths is not the same virus. In the 1900′s there was a human pandemic labeled “Spanish Flu,” and the new strain combined genes from humans, pig, and bird flu. “Swine Flu” is different from “Bird Flu,” whereas “Bird Flu” infects humans who have been in direct contact with the infected bird. “Swine Flu” is different, humans would have had to be in direct contact from human to human. The American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA) suggests the new strain of influenza offers no evidence that pets are susceptible to H1N1. This new strain of influenza is transmitted strictly from human to human.
Health issues in 1976 with the outbreak of “Swine Flu” didn’t affect cats or dogs, but more likely in pigs. During this time humans became sick and some died, but from the vaccine, not the disease. Only humans are affected 
with this type of influenza, not pigs. Cats can become sick and possibly get the flu, but a different strain referred to as H5N1. If your cat comes down with this type of flu, it cannot be transmitted from cat to pet parent, and likewise. So, can your pets get the swine flu? No, but there is a canine flu that can occur, but if not treated soon, can be lethal. NOW their saying pets can be infected with H1N1. So what do you think? With your current pet insurance, check if your pet insurance policy covers a portion of this illness, if not, veterinary medical bills could be costly. The availability of canine vaccine is now being developed. Be Happy!
