My Dog is on Thyroid Pills, is Yours?
My Chocolate Lab had his regular physical a few months back and in his blood work, low thyroid was diagnosed. So that meant thyroid pills, (wish I
could have given him some of mind) and it has made a big difference in his beautiful brown coat. Shiny, shiny and must softer. The dosage was for one pill twice a day, so after about a week, he was acting silly, and very nervous. I called his veterinarian and told him that I think we need to change his medication. He asked “is he running around like a puppy dog?’ Well he was, so now he is only given one-half twice a day. He doesn’t like them so I have to trick him with the pill inside of a treat. No problem!
Hypothyroidism is most common in older dogs. Their metabolism has slowed down, they may gain weight, and seems as though they are cold all of the time, especially during the winter months. Hair loss and poor growth of hair are symptoms to look out for. I had heard at one time that this disease will affect dogs, and needs to be treated as soon as the dogs are
diagnosed. Never thought my dog would have this problem. Once again, this is just another reason to have pet insurance from an early age on. Beside this thyroid problem, so many other illnesses can occur and become quite expensive. Be Happy!
