Puppy for a Christmas Present? Think Twice!

There should be many thoughts before giving a child a puppy for Christmas. Perhaps the parents aren’t ready to take on a responsibility of caring for a puppy, training them …. Some children are not old enough to take on a responsibility of a new pet. They need to accept doing chores in the home with enthusiasm, and follow through to complete what is expected of them? If not, it would be a wise decision to wait until they are old enough. This is Christmas Puppyone way in deciding if giving a puppy is a good idea. The puppy may not be the type of dog the family would have chosen. They may have had a breed in mind, but maybe the time is not just right. Children love puppies and will devote their time in playing and loving the pet, but when the child becomes tired of this new experience, the puppy may suffer for lack of attention. This would not be fair to the puppy or the child. The child may play rough and scare the puppy to the point that this is not fun anymore, and may not want to associate with the child, then what?

I saw an advertisement for gift certificates in one of the local pet stores, what a great idea. This may be an ideal gift if the child’s parents agree. That way when the time is right, choices can be made in deciding what breed, gender, color, and the size of the puppy when it grows crate20pad_puppyup. If a gift certificate is what is decided upon, make sure it will not only cover the purchase of the puppy, but also the cost of a small pet carrier for a place to keep the puppy in for potty training. The pet family will thank you, and be grateful forever. Be Happy!
